Baku – APA. The United States Azeri Network (USAN) has launched awareness campaign on 20 January tragedy. The State Committee on Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan told APA that the campaign contains the facts from the book “Black January: Baku, 1990. Documents and materials”.
It is reported that the Soviet troops contingent of 26 000 people occupied Baku on January 20, 1990 and lynched the civilians. As a result of this aggression, 170 people, including 6 women and 9 children were killed. 370 people were wounded and 317 went missing.
The message issued by the USAN to the American public, press and law-makers notes that 20 January is not only a day of mourning, but also the beginning of the collapse of Soviet regime in Azerbaijan.
Informing the American public on 20 January happenings through this campaign, the USAN members call on the law-makers of the country to adopt a resolution officially condemning this inhuman action. The campaign will be continued till January 22.
