Daryoosh Pirnyakan, spokesman of Iran’s House of Music told MNA the decision made in the board of directors of the House on registration of tar musical instrument as a cultural heritage for the Republic of Azerbaijan in UNESCO.
He added that the board has contacted the Iran former representative in UNESCO about the issue, and that he emphasized that the present representative has filed a formal notice of objection in UNESCO.
He added that the Iran’s representative in UNESCO is to be blamed the most for his negligence to inform and consult the House of Music on the decision by UNESCO. The least demand by Iranian musicians is the shared registration of Tar instrument as cultural heritage for Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan in UNESCO.
Though Iran objects to the registration of Tar musical instrument as cultural heritage of Azerbaijan in UNESCO, it is not related to the inclusion of Azerbaijani tar performing into the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. UNESCO has included Azerbaijani tar performing into this list.
Since tar musical instrument and tar performing are different notions, Iran’s objection may be regarded as groundless.
