Chief of International Relations and Cultural Programs Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Vasif Eyvazzadeh told APA that the Iranian side can address the UNESCO on Tar at any time: “One of the terms of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage is that if a country presents any cultural element, this element is being included on the behalf of that country and there are bearers in the other countries, those countries can address the UNECO on it in the future. Naturally, they should discuss it with Azerbaijan, because first Azerbaijan has submitted it. It is a sovereign right of every country. Submitting the art of Azerbaijani Tar performing to the UNESCO, Azerbaijan has observed both international norms and all terms of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. A special document has been released on the basis of these terms and submitted to the UNESCO. Of course, this is a result of the work undertaken during a year.”
Vasif Eyvazzadeh said that the documents, films and other information submitted by the Azerbaijani side were related with activities carried out in the area of Azerbaijan recognized within law: “There is no claim against any country. It was also noted in the document that there was also art of Tar performing in the other countries such as Iran, Turkey and Iraq. However, the Azeri Tar has specific features.”
The department chief added that all documents submitted to the UNESCO were based on international legal norms, at the same time the terms of the Convention and UNESCO instructions.
