German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has met with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping in Beijing, APA reports citing Euronews.
During the meeting, Xi stated that China is ready to elevate bilateral relations to new levels and emphasized that Beijing attaches great importance to China–Germany ties.
Note that the German chancellor is on a two-day visit to China. The visit is taking place against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs and other unpredictable foreign policy steps.
It was reported that China, the world’s second-largest economy, surpassed the United States last year to become Germany’s largest trading partner.
