Iranian troops, including a number of generals and military advisers, are mostly concentrated south of Aleppo where they are fighting different opposition groups.
On Friday alone, 15 Iranian troops including general Durban and Col. Shafi Shafii, one of the commanders of Iran’s elite Quds force in Syria, were killed fighting in Khan Touman.
In April of this year, this country had lost 23 troops, among them Mashallah Shamsa, an Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) commander.
Iran’s special forces sent to Syria too have suffered casualties. Colonel Mojtaba Zulfiqar-Naseb and several other officers have been killed. In total, Iran has lost 1,200 troops in Syria since 2012.
