The victims of the devastating earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 that struck Türkiye on February 6, 2023, with the epicenter in Kahramanmaraş, were commemorated with a silent march held in Hatay province, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.
Hundreds of participants in the march chanted the slogan “Can anyone hear my voice?” in remembrance of those who lost their lives after being trapped under the rubble during the earthquake. As part of the commemoration ceremony, carnations were scattered into the Asi River.
During the event, prayers were offered in memory of the victims by leaders of various religious communities. At the memorial ceremony, the religious leader of the province, Mövlüt Topçu, priests of the Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant churches, as well as leaders of the Jewish and Armenian communities, prayed for the souls of the deceased.
Note that as a result of the earthquakes, 53,537 people lost their lives, while 107,213 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
