Individuals detained in connection with protest rallies that took place in Iran last month will not be included in the amnesty list, said Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, head of Iran’s judiciary, APA reports.

“I have instructed that convicts linked to security-related issues be excluded from the amnesty list. Those accused in the recent unrest will also not be included,” Ejei said.

Protests erupted in Iran in late December last year in response to the sharp depreciation of the national currency, beginning in the capital, Tehran. Within a short period, the demonstrations turned into anti-government protests and spread to many regions of the country.

During the protests, clashes occurred between demonstrators and police forces, and incidents of violence were reported. According to the Iranian government, a total of 3,117 people, including members of the security forces, lost their lives as a result of the events.

After continuing for some time, the protest actions were eventually brought to an end.
