Türkiye will be forced to join a nuclear arms race if anyone in the region acquires nuclear weapons, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated, commenting on the possibility of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, APA reports.
"This issue needs to be considered in the context of the overall strategic situation. Frankly, we don't want to see dramatic changes in the region that could upset the current balance of power. Countries, for example, with problematic issues with Iran, will begin to strive to acquire nuclear weapons. And we will likely be forced to join this race. Therefore, I don't think this will be very beneficial for the region," Fidan said on CNN Türk.
When asked directly by the presenter whether Türkiye would even want to possess nuclear weapons, the minister responded with silence and a smile.
