During the Spring Festival, which marks the Lunar New Year in China, the number of people traveling has reached 353 million, APA reports, citing China’s Ministry of Transport.
On February 20 — the 19th day of the 40-day Spring Festival travel period (February 2 – March 13) — 353 million people traveled domestically across the country.
In Chinese tradition, it is considered important for people to return home for the New Year and spend it with their families. During the Spring Festival period, millions of Chinese citizens travel to their hometowns to visit their families.
According to the Ministry of Transport, approximately 9.5 billion domestic trips are expected during the 40-day Spring Festival travel season from February 2 to March 13.
The number of trips has increased by 12.3 percent compared to the same period last year, setting a new record.
