At least 24 Russians killed as bus plunged into ravine in Israel

APA reports that most of them were Russian travel agents. Israeli rescue service says 22 men and 3 women have been killed in the crash. There were 49 Russians and 2 Israelis in the bus. The bus carrying tourists from Saint Petersburg crashed because of the overtaking between the Israeli drivers. According to Transport Minister of Israel Shaul Mofaz, the accident may have been caused by an earlier dispute at a road block between the drivers. One of the drivers lost the control of the vehicle and the bus plunged 80 meters into the ravine. The tourists were reportedly on the way to the Red Sea resort. The injured passengers have been hospitalized. Most of them are in critical condition.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev offered his condolences to the relatives of the victims. Under the president’s order, special plane carrying the parents of those died and injured in the accident, rescuers, psychologists and necessary equipment was sent to Israel. The first plane from Saint Petersburg has already arrived in Israel.
The second plane will leave this morning.
