Iranian President invites Ukrainian counterpart to NAM Summit

Baku-APA. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad invited his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych to attend the upcoming heads-of-state summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran in August, APA reports quoting FNA.
The invitation was submitted by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Behrouz Kamalvandi to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko in Kiev on Saturday.
The 16th NAM summit will be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, from August 26 to 31, when Iran will assume the rotating presidency of the movement for three years.
NAM is comprised of some 120 member states and 17 observer countries.
Also during the meeting, the two sides explored avenues for the further expansion of ties and cooperation, and exchanged views over mechanisms for increased economic relations and trade exchanges between the two nations.
The Ukrainian foreign minister said the two states enjoy abundant capabilities and capacities for developing their economic, political and industrial ties.
Kamalvandi elaborated on Iran’s economic capacities and progress, and said, "In light of new advancements, the Islamic Republic of Iran can provide new opportunities for the two countries’ joint interests."
