Taliban-linked activities kill 6 NATO soldiers in single day
The soldiers, according to the statements, released here Sunday and Monday had been killed in Taliban-linked activities in the southern and eastern provinces.
ISAF in a statement released here on Monday admitted losing two soldiers in the eastern region where the alliance in previous statements released on Sunday confirmed dying four service members.
"Two additional International Security Assistance Force service members died following an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan Sunday," the statement released on Monday said.
The alliance in previous statement released on Sunday evening confirmed, "Three International Security Assistance Force service members died following an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan Sunday."
However, it did not identify the exact location of the incident.
Meanwhile, Taliban purported spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in talks with media claimed that the insurgents targeted a NATO-led forces base outside eastern Kunar’s provincial capital Assadabad Monday morning inflicting casualties.
On the other hand, Kunar police chief Khalilullah Ziae in talks with Xinhua confirmed that fire caught a NATO-led forces base at 08:30 a.m. local time but has been extinguished.
Ziae, however, rejected Taliban spokesman’s claim, emphasizing there were no casualties on the military base.
In a separate statement released here also on Sunday, the ISAF confirmed losing another soldier in Taliban hotbed southern region.
"An International Security Assistance Force service member died following an improvised explosive device attack in southern Afghanistan Sunday," the statement added.
The number of fatalities surpassed 640 with the casualties suffered the NATO-led forces on Sunday.
According to iCasualties, a website tracking NATO-led ISAF forces casualties, 643 service members with majority of them Americans have been killed since January this year in Afghanistan.
