NATO airstrike kills 7 Taliban militants in S. Afghanistan

Baku-APA. An airstrike launched by the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) killed seven Taliban insurgents in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province on Friday, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

The ISAF said in a press release that the airstrike was targeted a district level Taliban command and control center in the Now Zad district of Helmand province.

Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led ISAF to the Taliban hub, said the press release, adding that the surveillance indicated that the Taliban were using the location to control insurgent activities and as a meeting site.

In the last few days, numerous armed insurgents have been seen coming and going from the location, said the ISAF press release.

Seven insurgents were assessed killed in the air strike, said the press release, adding that initial reports indicate no civilians were harmed in the operation.
