Baku-APA. Chinese authorities have officially opened latest high-speed rail line as the country’s economy continues to grow at a faster pace in the region, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The new line expands the country’s rapid rail network to 7,431 kilometers, more than three times as much as Japan.

Traveling at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, it cuts travel time from Shanghai to Hangzhou from 90 to just 45 minutes.

The railway authority says China will spend about 120-billion dollars to nearly double the country’s high-speed rail network by 2012.

Officials recently announced that they are working on technology to boost traveling speed to over 500 kilometers per hour.
