Baku-APA. Supporters of a Kyrgyz opposition party rallied in the streets of Bishkek Tuesday, accusing authorities of cheating them in recent elections and warning of a political upheaval, APA reports quoting voanews.com website.
The nationalist Butun Kyrgyzstan party fell short of winning 5 percent of the vote needed to secure seats in the national parliament.
The country’s central election commission said last week it would agree to a recount if discrepancies were found in the final results, expected in the next few days.
At the rally Tuesday, a leader of Butun Kyrgyzstan, Marat Kayipov, told the crowds that if the commission makes an “unjust” decision, the party will replace the government.
A total of five political parties reached the vote threshold to be a part of a new coalition government. That coalition will replace the interim government that has run Kyrgyzstan since a deadly uprising in April that toppled former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
