Gang leader sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping, selling babies

Baku-APA. he female leader of a baby-kidnapping-and-selling gang was sentenced to life imprisonment Tuesday for involvement in the abduction and sale of 21 babies, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

The Intermediate Court of Rail Transportation in Shanghai convicted Li Wangshao, 44, of organizing 16 gang members to buy or kidnap 21 babies in southwest China’s Yunnan Province for sale in Beijing and the eastern China provinces of Jiangsu and Shandong between 2007 and 2009.

The court ruling also confiscated 50,000 yuan of Li’s assets.

In addition, the court sentenced some of the gang’s members to up to 14 years imprisonment for the same offence.

Police have rescued 12 babies and are still searching for the remaining nine.

None of the convicted appealed against their verdicts at the court.
