Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said that the United States is aiming to start a war in Latin America and the Caribbean and is deliberately increasing tensions in the region, APA reports, citing foreign media.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the creation of the Aerospace Defense Command, Lopez criticized the US's deployment of military forces to the Caribbean:
"The American people must understand that they have been turned into a tool by their own governments. The US's goal is to wage war in Latin America and the Caribbean."
Warning that the consequences of a possible war with the US would be devastating, the minister called for a political solution to the issue.
"We are closely monitoring attempts to intimidate us. However, we say with great humility that they should not miscalculate with us. We are ready to defend this country," Lopez emphasized.
