The US secretary of state Marco Rubio attended today's virtual meeting of the self-styled coalition of the willing with Ukraine and its European allies, APA reports quoting Sky News.
EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that he dialled into the call.
In a later post on social media this evening, von der Leyen says the European leaders, on the call with Rubio, insisted that keeping up pressure on Russia was the only way to achieve peace.
"Since pressure remains the only language Russia responds to, we will continue to increase it until there is a genuine willingness to engage on a credible path toward peace."
Rubio was in Geneva, leading the US delegation in talks with Ukraine over the weekend, and has taken a central role in the accelerated efforts to bring about an end to the war.
