US President Donald Trump announced that he intends to name a candidate for the post of new chairman of the US Federal Reserve System (the central bank) in early 2026, APA reports.
He noted his dissatisfaction with the performance of the current Fed chairman, Jerome Powell. "We have a guy who's just as stubborn as a mule and probably doesn't like your president, your beloved president, but he's going to be leaving soon. We'll probably announce a new Fed chairman early next year," Trump said at a cabinet meeting.
"I've talked to [US Treasury Secretary] Scott [Bessent] about him taking this job, but he doesn't want it. You have the best job here," the US president added, turning to the Treasury Secretary sitting next to him. "Yes, sir," Bessent confirmed.
