US President Donald Trump believes that Ukrainian authorities have misused American taxpayer funds sent by Washington to Kyiv, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated at a regular press briefing, APA reports.
"Look, I think the president made it pretty clear when he said last night that corruption is never a good thing and that he doesn't want American taxpayer dollars to be misused. That's why he ended the endless checks that the previous administration wrote to fund this war," she said when asked to comment on the U.S. administration's handling of high-profile corruption investigations in Ukraine.
"The United States is selling weapons to NATO that are then shipped to Ukraine. That's a very different situation than the American people writing blank checks to wage a war in a faraway country. It doesn't weaken the administration's resolve to end this war, but I think it illustrates the president's commitment to always putting the American people and the American taxpayer first," Leavitt added.
