A Peruvian court sentenced former President Martín Vizcarra to 14 years in prison on corruption charges. The hearing was broadcast live on RPP radio, APA reports.
Vizcarra received eight years in prison for one count, and six for the other. "For all the offenses, the total sentence is 14 years in prison. The punishment must be tangible and subject to immediate execution," the judge read.
Vizcarra called his sentence a disgrace to justice. "I was sentenced for opposing a mafia conspiracy," the former head of state wrote in X after the court's verdict was announced.
