Baku-APA. A 6.1-magnitude earthquake has shaken the Coquimbo region of northern Chile, according to Chile’s University Seismological Institute, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The strong quake took place on Tuesday, but no tsunami warning was issued and there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which happened at 8:21 p.m. local time (2321 GMT), was in Los Vilos in the Coquimbo region, about 450 kilometers north of the Chilean capital Santiago.

The tremor was felt in Santiago and the southern regions of Maule and O’Higgins.

South central Chile was battered by a powerful quake and ensuing tsunamis in early 2010.
