6 killed in Argentine resthome fire

Baku-APA. Six elders were killed and 8 others injured after a resthome in Argentina was set ablaze Sunday night, police said Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Nearby residents called authorities after the fire erupted and tried to get out those trapped inside the facility in Pergamino, 200 km northwest of Buenos Aires.

The neighbors heard the elders who cried for help, but only found both the resthome’s main gate and emergency exit locked. They finally broke into the facility and worked with the emergency responders who rushed to the scene by then.

The resthome was burnt to the ground and the wounded were being treated at a local hospital.

A 46-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man, both staffers at the facility, were arrested Monday for suspected arson. Police said the two lived together, and more details were not immediately available.
