At least 10 killed in Peru road accident

Baku-APA. At least 10 people, including four children, were killed in a highway accident in Peru late Wednesday night when a bus carrying 29 passengers fell off a cliff in a region of the Andes mountains, Peru’s National Police (PNP) said on Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The accident occurred late Wednesday night near the Matucana district some 72 km east of Lima, when the bus was on its way back to San Mateo after a field trip to the Peruvian capital.

According to initial police investigations, the driver, who was also killed during the accident, lost control of the vehicle in a curve and fell off a cliff which is more than 100 meters high.

An unspecified number of severely injured people were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The victims of the accident were all students, teachers and parents from the kindergarten " Manuelita Bentin" from the San Mateo District in the western part of the province of Lima.

Police and firefighters continued to work on Thursday at the accident site where they are trying to recover the bodies of the victims still trapped in the bus.
