U.S. VP discusses regional situation with Kuwaiti PM

Baku-APA. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday met with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammed al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for talks over regional issues, the White House said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Among the main topics in the meeting were the recent developments in the Arab world and the relations between Kuwait and Iraq, the White House said in a statement.

At the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait from Iraq’s invasion, the two leaders stressed the enduring ties between their countries, according to the statement.

"The Vice President also reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to the security of the region and of our partners," the statement added.

In August 1990, Iraq, under the leadership of Saddam Hussein, invaded and annexed Kuwait, which led to the Gulf War. In February 1991, U.S.-led coalition forces liberated Kuwait.
