Baku-APA. Five people were killed and at least seven more were injured Monday in Colombia after unidentified gunmen attacked the town of San Antero in the northern province of Cordoba, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

A marine was among the four victims who were "indiscriminately shot" and killed on the spot, Cordova Governor Marta Saenz told a local radio, adding that another man died after being were taken to a hospital. All the injured were receiving treatment right now.

Saenz said the shooting was caused by a dispute between the emerging drug gangs in the province, which were mostly made up of former rebels.

Mayor Lormandy Martinez has offered an award of 25,000 U.S. dollars in exchange for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects in Monday’s shooting.

Security situation in the region is getting "more difficult every day and we don’t know what to do" to tackle the violent wave which has left more than 400 people dead so far this year, said Saenz, while repeating her call for help from the central government.

Earlier this year, the governor publicly accused President Juan Manuel Santos of ignoring her request for more troops and other resources to deal with the security problems in the region.
