Mexican police seize 143 kg cocaine in south

Baku-APA. Mexican federal police confiscated 143 kg of cocaine during a routine inspection along the country’s border with Guatemala in southern Chiapas State, the Public Security Ministry announced Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

An inspection unit detected a number of irregular forms of cargo in a vehicle and detained the driver on Tuesday, the ministry said in a statement. Further inspection found drugs in the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Dario Gustavo Bustamente, 32, and his vehicle and the seized drugs were being held in the general attorney’s office in Chiapas.

The operation took place at a checkpoint located about halfway between Escuitla en Tapachula, a highway that runs along Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala, the ministry said.

A total of 4.65 tons of cocaine had been confiscated in Mexico Between January and August this year.
