US marine killed in California

Baku-APA. The US military says a marine has been killed after his amphibious assault vehicle sunk during an exercise in Southern California, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The incident occurred at 20:30 GMT on Friday at Camp Pendleton, a large Marine Corps base in Southern California, an announcement said late Friday.

The victim was pulled from the harbor and flown via Mercy Air to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. He was pronounced dead thirty minutes later.

Five other marines have survived the incident. The name of the victim has not been released until 24 hours after his next-of-kin is notified.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

Officials have not released the specific type of amphibious vehicle in which the victim was riding or the training exercise in which he was participating.
