Baku-APA. Two military officers were killed and eight of their colleagues' sustained injuries after the vehicle they were traveling in exploded in Fafi district, Garissa County in the northern region on Tuesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Garissa County Commander of police Charles Kinyua said the vehicle was hit by the explosives reported to have been carried by the military officers at Bulla-Baris, a village 10 km from Bura- East town, 84 km south of Garissa town.
"Two officers have so far been confirmed dead, while other eight got multiple bodily injuries from the impact of the explosive. The victims were been treated at Bura East hospital waiting to be airlifted to Nairobi," Kinyua said.
He said the military vehicle on a convoy of three was traveling from Hullugho to Garissa town and exploded after explosive carried by the military officer accidentally went off.
He said the vehicles were heading to Garissa from the border town of Hullugho, where the military has a base.
The regional police commander said the vehicle was damaged extensively, after it caught fire from the powerful explosion and it will be towed after it was put off.
The incidents have paralyzed the operation of Masalani-Garissa road, forcing many commuters stranded for several hours as the military cordoned off the area to salvage their officers caught in the burning military vehicle.
Scores of onlookers from Bura town jam packed the local hospital where the officers were rushed for treatment by their colleagues.
