Road accident in Southwestern Egypt kills 18

Baku-APA. A total of 18 people were killed in a road accident to the west of the Egyptian capital of Cairo, APA reports quoting Sputnik.

 

According to the El Watan newspaper, the accident occurred in the southwestern New Valley Governorate, when a truck and a minivan collided. The passengers of the latter died from the injuries. All the victims were Egyptian nationals, the newspaper said.

 

Egypt is among the countries with the highest rates of road accidents in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Egypt loses over 12 000 lives annually due to road traffic crashes.

 

In late August, Egypt's Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar met with the ministerial officials to discuss a strategy to combat the existing traffic problems and to address the growing number of road accidents in the country.
