Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. Rival rallies in and around Cairo ran into Saturday, with some celebrating the jailing of deposed Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy, and others angrily demanding his return to power. The death toll from overnight clashes jumped to 75, APA reports quoting CNN.
In addition, more than 1,000 protesters were wounded during clashes with police in Cairo's Nasr City neighborhood, a stronghold for Morsy supporters. MENA had previously reported 10 people dead at that location.
The Muslim Brotherhood, which Morsy formerly headed, accused police of opening fire on demonstrators with live ammunition.
Tension is mounting in Egypt as supporters and opponents of Morsi are holding mass demonstrations.
