Algeria, U.S. share convergent view on Libyan crisis

Baku-APA. Algeria and the United States share a convergent view on the need to reach negotiable settlement for the crisis hitting Libya, Algerian Delegate Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel said on Tuesday in Algiers, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"There is a complete convergence of views between Algiers and the Washington regarding the Libyan crisis, which can be settled only through peace talks between warrant parties," Messahel told reporters following his meeting with the visiting U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Amanda League, as part of the sixth joint military dialogue between the two countries.

"We have discussed a range of regional issues, and, obviously, the situation in Libya was among the main issues we shared views on," said the minister, adding that "it is essential and necessary to restore stability in Libya as soon as possible, in order to devote our efforts to the fight against terrorism in the region."

Messahel also said "Algeria and the United States continue consultations on Libya through exchanging analysis and views to ensure the success of the peace process that aims at preserving the unity and stability of Libya."

For her part, League said that her presence in Algeria is part of constant talks between Washington and Algeria over issues and problems of common interest, including security issues and military cooperation between the two countries.
