Baku-APA. Nigerian police on Saturday confirmed a suicide bomb attack at a local poultry market in Maiduguri, capital of northeastern Nigeria's state of Borno and headquarters of Boko Haram in the West African country, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

No official casualties has been reported so far, Borno's state police spokesperson Gideon Jibrin told Xinhua.

The extent of damage was still being ascertained and rescue efforts still going on at the place of the explosion, Jibrin said.

He said official casualties figure will be given after ongoing rescue operation.

"Security operatives have cordoned off the area," the police spokesman added.

An eyewitness account revealed that the attack was carried out by a teenage girl whose body was completely shattered by the bomb. The upper part of her body, the eyewitness noted, was flung apart due to the high caliber explosive on her.

However, other sources said at least 20 lifeless bodies had been found in the area.

Local people have blamed the attack on Boko Haram, a terror group in Nigeria. The group seeks to enshrine the Islamic Sharia law in the constitution of Africa's most populous country.
