Baku-APA. Two soldiers have been killed and two civilians injured in an attack on an oil barge in southern Nigeria, APA reports quoting Press TV.

A number of gunmen attacked the Indian-owned oil barge in Bayelsa state on Tuesday, AFP reported.

“I can confirm that some of our troops on board the Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited ran into an ambush along the Angiama-Etelibiri waterways… of the state,” Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesman for the Nigerian military's Joint Task Force, told reporters.

"There was a shootout between the unknown gunmen and our troops. Two of our men lost their lives and two other civilians [were] injured," Nwachukwu stated.

He added that troops were deployed to the area to find the gunmen.

In September 2012, three employees of Nigeria's state oil firm were shot dead by oil thieves in a village near Lagos.
