Baku-APA. A massive fire has broken out in Nigeria, burning down many houses and workshops, APA reports quoting Press TV.
The fire started in the Lagos Lagoon in the southwestern city of Lagos on Tuesday and floated into the city, the Associated Press reported.
It is not yet known if there have been any casualties in the incident, or how the fire started.
There were reportedly no firefighters or emergency equipment in the street at the time of the incident, and the civilians were trying to extinguish the fire using buckets of water.
On December 26, 2012, an explosion in a warehouse full of fireworks in Lagos Island killed one person and injured at least 15 others.
Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation with some 160 million people.
Lagos is also considered the continent's second largest city after the Egyptian capital Cairo.
