2 prison officials killed in by gunmen in northern Nigeria

Baku-APA. Two personnel of the Nigeria Prison Service were killed in the restive northeastern state of Borno by gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect, police said on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The gunmen attacked a police station and a nearby prison in Kunshi town, a small community 120 km away from Maiduguri, the state capital.

State police spokesperson Samuel Tizhe told Xinhua that the gunmen first attacked a police station in Banki town, but were repelled by the police.

"Five hours later, the gunmen went and attacked a nearby prison in Kumshi town, killing two prison warders and setting free all the inmates," he added.

The spokesperson said the police arrested 23 suspects in connection with the attacks.
