Sudanese army enters Heglig: media

Baku-APA. The Sudanese army has managed to enter Heglig area, seized by South Sudanese army on April 10, and is carrying out a wide sweep of opposition troops, local media reported Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have managed to enter the oil- producing Heglig region in the South Kordofan State, which has been controlled by the South Sudanese troops since last week, and came close to completely free the region," Sudan’s al-Shorug website reported.

It quoted witnesses as saying that "the Sudanese army has penetrated deeply into Heglig and expelled the forces of South Sudan from the region, after causing them heavy losses."

"The army has also seized large quantities of war materiel and taken prisoner hundreds of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army ( SPLA) of South Sudan."

The spokesman of the Sudanese army could not be reached at the moment to confirm the report.
