Mohamed El-Baradei calls on Hosni Mubarak to resign

Leading Egyptian activist Mohamed ElBaradei said on Saturday President Hosni Mubarak should step down and set a framework for transition of power as the only way to end street unrests that have rocked Egypt. At his phone interview to “Al-Jazeera†channel he said that only the president’s resignation can end the demonstrations: “The system of Hosni Mubarak has failed to achieve the political, economic and social demands of the Egyptian people and we want to build a new Egypt founded on freedom, democracy and social justiceâ€.
The leader of Egyptian cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi said the Mubarak’s regime had failed and called on people not to damage the governmental organizations. Ahmed Aziz, who was one of the leaders of National Democratic Party declared his resignation from the party. His resignation was announced by the state television.
