"The level of use of open-source technologies in Azerbaijan is one of the topics of interest to us," Bernardo Mariano, Assistant-Secretary-General of the UN, said during the "New Technologies for a New World" panel at the XII Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
He noted that the organization he represents should use its influence to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in countries: "Research in the field of artificial intelligence has taken approximately 60 years. As a result, the 'ChatGPT' technology emerged. I believe that artificial intelligence can solve much bigger problems. AI serves the community, plays a role in addressing climate change issues, and particularly in restoring lost intelligence in humans. At the same time, artificial intelligence also has negative aspects. This technology can also create problems for humanity.
When it comes to global governance, I hope that we will be able to utilize the UN's leading role in this field. 'Open Source Technology' is not the only solution to existing problems. Considering the UN's ability to persuade, I believe we can influence countries in the implementation of artificial intelligence."
