“Our cultural heritage in Western Azerbaijan has suffered significant damage,” said Aziz Alakbarov, Chairman of the Board of the Western Azerbaijan Community, in his statement to journalists during the 3rd International Conference titled “Cultural heritage and the right to return: The restoration of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis displaced from Armenia as a path to justice, reconciliation, and peace,” APA reports.
He stated that bringing the issue of restoring cultural heritage in Western Azerbaijan to the agenda is essential: “The cultural heritage created by our ancestors in Western Azerbaijan has been subjected to Armenian vandalism. We have submitted an appeal to UNESCO regarding this.”
