European sports ministers to gather in Baku

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev â€“ APA. Azerbaijan is celebrating Youth Day on February 2. According to APA, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov, the ministry officials and representatives of the youth organizations visited Heydar Aliyevâ€™s memorial at the Alley of Honor and alley of Martyrs.
Azad Rahimov told journalists that Azerbaijani sportsmen achieved great successes in the past year. â€œI believe they will continue their successful achievements this year tooâ€.

The minister spoke about the relations established between the ministry and international organizations and said delegations from Kyrgyzstan and Kuwait are in Azerbaijan now.

Rahimov noted that Azerbaijani sportsmen won 213 medals in the Olympic and other tournaments in 2005, but this figure rose to 619 in 2009 and 174 medals were won in the Olympic sports.

The minister said that sport ministers of the European countries would gather in Baku this year and called it great event.

He said Olympic Sports Complex would be opened in the regions Goychay, Aghdash, Balakan and Tovuz, Regatta Complex in Mingachevir. This year foundation of Basin Complex will be founded as well.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports will hold a round table dedicated to the Youth Day on Tuesday.
