Experts of the Medical Forensic and Pathological Anatomy Union of the Health Ministry and the Institute of History conducted researches and found only 23 bodies”, said Director of the Institute of History, member of the parliament Yagub Mahmoudov, APA reports.

Mahmoudov said the Institute of History immediately began researches: “Some people, who didn’t learn archive materials and research it, were insisting that Stepan Shaumyan’s body was also there. But those bodies were identified for age. Three of 26 Baku Commissars were above 40 – Mashadi Azizbeyov, Stepan Shaumyan and Tatevos Amiryan. Only one body above 40 – Mashadi Azizbayov’s body was found in the Sahil Park. Remains of Shaumyan and Amiryan’s bodies were not found. The third man, whose body was also not found, was Arsen Avakyan, former commandant of Icherisheher (Old City). He was 23 in that time. There were several bodies of that age found in the Sahil Park. But researches showed that he was not among those, who were buried there. The medical forensic examination also confirmed that”.

Mahmoudov said experts of the Institute of History found out a special telegram in the Turkmen archives. “The telegram was about that how Stepan Shaumyan and Anastas Mikoyan received packed lunches in Krasnovodsk jail within 10 days after the execution of 26 Baku Commissars on September 20, 1918. How Shaumyan could be executed by shooting? He had contacts with Lenin via Mikoyan. The telegram also said that earlier he received one ruble 50 kopeck for daily expenditures, then two rubles and later on – 17 rubles”.

Mahmoudov said the Institute of History identified 4-5 more telegrams about Shaumyan. “Those telegrams showed that Shaumyan was not executed and he was one of the leaders of Dashnaksutyun Party”.

The Director of the Institute of History said that 26 Commissars were violent enemy to Azerbaijani people. “Despite that the bodies were re-buried in silk coffins and according to the religious traditions. DNA-analysis of the bodies demands huge resources and their relatives also should pass blood-test. If their relatives raise this issue and resources are allocated, DNA-analysis of the bodies is possible. The medical forensic and pathological anatomy union was awarded previously for examination of the skull of Russian Tsar Nikolay II. I consider that the union which examined Nikolay’s skull, could be trusty in the examination of Shaumyan case”.
