Yuri Merzlyakov said that in Nagorno Karabakh both the current situation and the perspectives of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict have been discussed during the meeting.
“We exchanged ideas and tried to come to a joint opinion on a number of issues, he added. The co-chair noted that he can not announce the details of joint opinion.
After the meeting American co-chair Matthew Bryza made statement saying that the meeting was constructive. Every conflict has its own characteristics and difficulties, and every conflict needs to be found its own solution, the mediator noted. He specially stressed that his position on the settlement of the conflict coincides with the positions of other co-chairs.
“War will not solve the problem; there can be only peaceful solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. In order to prepare for peace, it is necessary to speak about peace and not war, stated OSCE MG Co-Chair Bernard Fasier. EU’s intention to directly work with Nagorno Karabakh, the French mediator said, On the whole, the European Union has other means to solve such problems. The Neighborhood Policy is an example. The European Union can assist the settlement process, but it does not participate in the talks, he said. The head of separatist regime Arkadi Gukasyan said that though their meeting was constructive, but not everything depends on the co-chairs. At present the co-chairs should agree their positions with Azerbaijan. But Azerbaijan’s position remains as it was before-destructive. Because of some reasons I have not met with co-chairs for a long time that is why I had something to tell them. The co-chairs noted that Azerbaijan has begun to work constructively, but we do not feel it, he noted.
It should be noted that in the framework of the regional visit OSCE MG Co-Chairs on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia), Matthew Bryza (U.S.A.) and Bernard Fasier (France) arrived in Khankendi today. The mediators have met with NKR President Arkadi Gukasyan and after the meeting they left for Yerevan./APA/
