Azeryolservis OJSC: Baku-Guba-Russia highway bridge collapse is connected with activity of quarries in this area

Spokesperson of Azeryolservis OJSC Punhan Murseliyev says the bridge, being constructed in 1972, was consisted of 6 piers and 5 spans. The flood washed out 1 of the piers and consequently, 2 of the spans fell into water. Murseliyev tied the collapse of bridge with activity of quarries operating near there: â€œThose quarries used the materials around the river. Consequently, the river fell from is course 7-8 m lower and foundation bags of bridgeâ€™s piers remained on the surfaceâ€.

Murseliyev also noted that currently, appropriate technique was working at the site and the remaining elements of the bridge were breaking: â€œThis bridge will be totally destructed and in turn, new one will be constructed within the coming months. At the same time, an alternative road is launching for restoration of movement there, the road will be ready in the coming 2 daysâ€.

Note that, a bridge situated on the 157th km of Baku-Guba-Russia highway, in Nugadi Gazmalar village of Azerbaijanâ€™s Guba region has crashed down today. APAâ€™s northern bureau reports that traffic was restricted on the highway because of collapse of the 90-m bridge. GAZel truck fell into Garachay River as a result of bridge collapse. GAZelâ€™s driver, resident of Guba regionâ€™s Igrig village, Ulfat Hasanov, born in 1972, was hospitalized. His state is reported serious.
