Transport Ministry: “Baku-Guba-Russia highway bridge collapse was caused by strong flood waters”

Spokesperson of the Transport Ministry Namig Hasanov says as a result of the overflow, 2 spans of bridge with 5 spans and 90m-length, crashed absolutely: “The bridge was commissioned 40 years ago, in 1972. During technical inspection conducted in 2007, the bridge was in normal situation. But this year, too many flood waters became it useless”.

Ministry official noted that Ziya Mammadov visited the site for taking appropriate measures. Currently, measures are underway on creation of alternative road around the bridge.

In general, the Ministry asks drivers moving on northern border and Guba region to use Gandob-Khachmaz-Guba or Gandob-Yalama alternative highways.
