Ovseyevsky explained that the law will be tweaked for about two months.

“There are plenty of examples when officials buy vehicles with excessive consumer features. It is necessary to establish certain limits for various categories of officials,” Ovseevsky told Ekho Moskvy.

The deputy minister underlined that the most effective way to control the purchases made by officials is public oversight.

“We have introduced an amendment to the Federal Contract System, which allows people to file complaints in various institutions,” he said.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that state, municipal and other institutions financed from the budget, should purchase only vehicles made in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

“I believe that all of state and municipal institutions and all enterprises financed from the budget, should purchase vehicles produced in the United Economic Space in the near future, meaning in Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Of course, there can be an exception made if the necessary types of vehicles are not made in these countries,” Putin said at a meeting with the Russian machine-building professionals as a part of Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
