Azerbaijan becomes member of Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. The measures, considered in the State Program on formation and development of cosmic industry in the Republic of Azerbaijan, are implemented systematically.

The Ministry of Communications and IT told APA that purposeful actions on establishment of international relations for formation and development of cosmic industry, as well as membership, representation and participation of Azerbaijan in the international organizations have been carried out and under the UN resolution Azerbaijan’s membership in the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space – COPUOS had been confirmed.

The Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was set up by the General Assembly in 1959 (resolution 1472 (XIV)) to review the scope of international cooperation in peaceful uses of outer space, to devise programmes in this field to be undertaken under United Nations auspices, to encourage continued research and the dissemination of information on outer space matters, and to study legal problems arising from the exploration of outer space. Currently, including Azerbaijan the committee has 70 members.
