Official statement made in connection with crash of Azerbaijan’s plane in Afghanistan

According to information received by Afghanistan’s airspace management service, on July 6, 2011, at about 00.10, while preparing to land in Bagram airport, the communication with IL-76 4K-AZ 55 belonging to Azerbaijan’s Silk Way aviation company suddenly broke off and its view disappeared in radars. At the same time, towerman in Kabil airport said that he saw a flicker in 4km height and 25 km-distance.

Until the communication cut, no information about any disorder or accident conditions was received by the crew team, that is why, it is supposed that the aircraft collided with unknown object.

The plane implementing the flight on Baku-Bagram route with 18 tons of cargo took off from Heydar Aliyev International Airport at 21.26 (local time of Baku), on July 5, 2011. Before this flight the plane flied on Kuwait-Baku route and no disorder was recorded during this flight.

İl-76 4K-AZ 55 aircraft was produced in 2005 and last time it passed tech inspection in February of 2011 and next time in June.
There were 9 crew members in the deck. The captain of the plane was Kuzmin Sergei Viktorovich, born in 1969.

Commission was created for investigation of the accident and experts are planned to fly to the site after the agreement with Afghanistan leadership. More detailed information on the incident will be made public after the investigations.
