Baku hosts training course on fight against drug trafficking from Afghanistan

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. First training course on third component of the EU-funded Project titled “Fight Against Trafficking from/to Afghanistan” with the ECO Member States took place at the World Customs Organization’s Regional Training Center in Baku on June 20-24, 2011.

The training was organized by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and World Customs Organization for the employees of the customs and border service organizations of Azerbaijan.

Addressing the opening ceremony, chief of the Customs Committee’s department of fight against law infringements Guloglan Muradli said that drug control on southern borders of Azerbaijan was complicated and “drug aggression” against the country was continued. The customs agencies of the country strengthen the customs control and operational search activities, improve professional training of customs officers and conduct regional and international cooperation for implementation of leading experiences and methods for the prevention of use the country as a “transit point”.

The problems of control over the containers, identification of drugs, analysis of the risks were addressed during the course. The participants heard reports on Container COMM software program, using Internet as information source in sea shipping, regional communication systems, international law-enforcement network and other topics.
