Deputy Chairman of Baku Metro Arif Rasulov: â€œMetro will not be launched to Sumgayit and airportâ€

According to him, the stations of Baku Metro will be separated into two directions in 2013: â€œMetro will has 2 directions â€“ Hazi Aslanov-Icherisheher and Darnagul-Khatai. First direction will operate by crossing from 28 May station, second â€“ by Jafar Jabarli stationâ€.

He noted that, electric depot must be constructed for operation of second direction easily and the lines must be separated completely: â€œAll of these works will be completed by 2013. By 2030, 5 directions will operate in Baku Metro. Number of stations will reach 76, distance of roads will reach 119 kmâ€.

Drilling of two parallel tunnels has been started from Avtovagzal to Memar Ajami station for launch Avtovagzal station. This station is expected to complete in 2014. At the same time, works are underway in Hazi Aslanov, New Gunashli and Old Gunashli areas.

He also noted that, metro will not be launched to Sumgayit and Airport: â€œResearches show that, 80,000 passengers may be in Sumgayit, per day, while these passengers are in Elmel;er Akademiyasi station. For this purpose, it needs 30 km tunnel to Sumgayit, 25 km - to airport. We solve the problems of Baku by constructing 83 km tunnelâ€.
